JD Sports’ global expansion
Leading sports fashion retailer JD Sports started in the United Kingdom in 1981. It has since expanded its footprint with stores across Europe. France and Spain were the first European countries JD Sports expanded to, but the sports fashion retailer can now be found in many other European countries too.
The first store in Asia opened in 2016. This was only the start of its rapid international expansion. From opening in Malaysia first, JD now has stores in Australia, Singapore and Thailand.
The United States was the next pin on the map. Through some strategic acquisitions, JD Sports is now well represented in America too, with a flagship in Times Square, New York.
According to the JD Sports website, the JD Group now has over 3,300 stores in 29 territories, including over 890 JD stores. However since this JD Sports timeline was last updated, they have continued to expand, into Africa.

JD Sports’ arrival in South Africa
The Foschini Group (TFG) is the exclusive partner of JD Sports in South Africa. Both the first South African store in Canal Walk, Cape Town and a flagship store in Sandton City have been opened.

So much hard work happens behind the scenes to make store launches like this a reality, but when it all comes together, it is so worth it.
